Tour Description
The tour will begin with a visit to the Basilica of Santiago, one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites in the world. The guide, an expert in the religious history of the place, will lead you through the majestic facade and inside the church, revealing the story of the tomb of the apostle St. James. You will hear fascinating tales about the pilgrims who, for centuries, have walked the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago to arrive here in devotion. We will also explore the Capella Maggiore, the place where the statue of St. James stands and where many religious ceremonies take place, enveloped in the spirituality that permeates the entire building.
You will continue your visit with the Treasury Room, a room filled with relics and sacred objects that tell the story of the Basilica and Christian devotion to Santiago. Here, our guide will reveal the history of some of the most precious treasures, including liturgical objects and relics that have accompanied the worship of St. James throughout the centuries. The Hall is also an opportunity to better understand the spiritual and symbolic value of Santiago as a pilgrimage destination, as well as its historical impact on Christianity.
The tour will end with a visit to the Basilica Library, a veritable treasure chest of religious and historical knowledge. The guide will introduce us to ancient works and rare manuscripts that testify to the theological and cultural depth of Santiago de Compostela. Next, you will climb to the roof of the Basilica, from where we will enjoy an extraordinary panoramic view of the city and surrounding landscape, a perfect time to reflect on the beauty and importance of this sacred place. Finally, you will take a stroll through the historic center of Santiago, walking through the narrow medieval streets, where the city's history is intertwined with daily life, and discovering picturesque corners and places of great historical and spiritual value.
